{"id":4595,"date":"2015-08-06T08:54:33","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T13:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicomuhly.com\/?p=4595"},"modified":"2015-08-06T08:54:33","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T13:54:33","slug":"season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nicomuhly.com\/news\/2015\/season\/","title":{"rendered":"Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I realize that I should use this space to say more what&#8217;s going on with my work, so here is a little update. \u00a0In September, I&#8217;ll be in Paris working on a <a href=\"http:\/\/saison15-16.operadeparis.fr\/en\/ballet\/jerome-robbins-benjamin-millepied-george-balanchine\">ballet<\/a> with my old friend &amp;\u00a0collaborator Benjamin Millepied. \u00a0There is a bunch of <a href=\"http:\/\/wigmore-hall.org.uk\/artistic-series\/focus-nico-muhly\">upcoming work<\/a> at the Wigmore Hall with dear Iestyn. In October, I&#8217;ll go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dso.org\/ShowEventsView.aspx?id=2285&amp;prod=2284\">Detroit<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nadiasirota.com\">Nadia<\/a> to hear the US premiere of the viola concerto I wrote her. \u00a0Please note that this concert also features\u00a0<em>Eine Kleine<\/em> Literal <em>Nachtmusik. <\/em>There&#8217;s a big piece for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utahsymphony.org\/15-16-season\/masterworks\/1110-beethoven-s-ode-to-joy\">Utah Symphony<\/a>, which is great because I love Utah in the winter; I am going to ski down the world&#8217;s smallest hill. \u00a0One of the stranger things about what I do is that plans are made so far in advance and it&#8217;s difficult to 4C how things are going to actually align, so occasionally\u00a0it&#8217;s nice to zoom out and see how a season is actually going to look. \u00a0This is one of the first seasons\u00a0where I have the space now, in August, to look at it and emotionally prepare for the travel,\u00a0and for the potential\u00a0tectonic rubbing of project against project. \u00a0The classical music season is essentially an academic one, and I still feel, in August, this urgent need to run out and buy a trapper keeper and all new pencils. \u00a0I wish you all a productive August and a bonne rentr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I realize that I should use this space to say more what&#8217;s going on with my work, so here is a little update. \u00a0In September, I&#8217;ll be in Paris working on a ballet with my old friend &amp;\u00a0collaborator Benjamin Millepied. \u00a0There is a bunch of upcoming work at the Wigmore Hall with dear Iestyn.
