A few weeks ago, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/cocorosie\">Cocorosie&#8217;s<\/a> band totally got detained by la migra, and so they were short a pianist, and I subbed with them at a free show at the Wintergarden.  Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/samanthawest.net\/\">Sam West&#8217;s<\/a> picture of us backstage.  I was pretty convinced before when I saw them do it live (but am even more convinced now) that their cover of Kevin Lyttle&#8217;s <em>Turn Me On<\/em> <a href='https:\/\/nicomuhly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/harptuning.jpg' title='harptuning.jpg'>class=&#8221;left&#8221;\/><\/a>is one of the most beautiful things extant: it is a cover that shines new light on the original but also exposes what it is that makes Cocorosie so great.  I know it&#8217;s eight different kinds of illegal but I&#8217;m going to go ahead and post it here until the indie copyright gods shut me down.<\/p>\n<p>[audio:08 Turn Me On (Kevin Lyttle cover).mp3]<br \/>\n<small>Cocorosie covering Kevin Lyttle&#8217;s <em>Turn Me On<\/em><\/small><\/p>\n<p>Wednesday I was really happy to play at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thekitchen.org\/\">Kitchen<\/a> spring gala honoring Laurie Anderson.  I have always been a huge fan of her work; I have a particularly visceral response to her voice akin to what happens when you grab cats by the scruff of the neck.  I played <a href=\"https:\/\/nicomuhly.com\/projects\/2007\/a-hudson-cycle\/\">A Hudson Cycle<\/a>, and then a song I wrote for Antony, and then Antony sang Laurie Anderson&#8217;s <em>Hansel and Gretel<\/em>.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reidtaheny.com\/ff\/read.html\">Final Fantas\u00c3\u00bd<\/a> (anybody who knows me knows I think he the best thing ever &#8220;\u201c purchase his <a href=\"http:\/\/phobos.apple.com\/WebObjects\/MZStore.woa\/wa\/viewArtist?id=121488050\">whole catalogue<\/a> immediately!) also played &#8220;\u201c a sort of looped violin lovefest through the ages.<\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/nicomuhly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/pelog.gif' alt='pelog.gif' class=\"right\"\/>Steady progress is being made on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bso.org\/\">Boston Pops<\/a> piece (working title: <em>Tipsy Gamelan<\/em>), but most importantly, I finished a draft of this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abt.org\/\">ballet<\/a>.
