thanks for the lovely breadcrumbs throughout. actually Tibor dropped the first, then Maira’s kids stories, to the only tune…a straight path

Perhaps that violist wants to museMarry that britten.

Now my friends and I are using your usage of “Gay Marry” as a verb. Is this the right post to put this in? Cuz, I want to gay marry you right now.

The link to the story should appear with my name.

Powerfully put, that last paragraph – thanks for that. Being quite flippant on what ought to be a serious subject, British music man Byron Adams had me rolling around at a post-Bard supper with his memories of Henri Sauguet. Think about it, say it with a certain NY inflection…

Now, we’ve been discussing this elsewhere, but you might like to know – if you don’t already – of two interesting segues. One was a couple of weeks back, when the great Vladimir Jurowski let the last whistles of Ligeti’s Atmospheres fade away, continued to beat time for twenty seconds or so, and then in stole the bassoon for The Rite of Spring.

This reminded me of what David Robertson did with the BBCSO a couple of seasons back: endeth the last pizzicato of the Tristan Prelude, into the silence glides the opening of Schoenberg’s Erwartung.

So two of our wackiest conductors are certainly having their say in the programming. Of course, what often looks good on paper may not work in practice.

I just posted a new video, and it has Fred Morgan’s triangle all over it!!! It even appears in the cover pic in a blue light. Fred uses one of these newer high-tech beaters though. But yeah, triangles are great for monkeys to play, although the traditional monkey instrument I always think of are those little cymbals. I have sometimes wondered about the musical ability of monkeys, chimps, bonoboes… Have they made music observed by some anthropologists? How do they program their concerts? Do they program a lot of new music? Because I wish orchestras were commissioning local composers… but I really don’t observe that it happens all that much.

Oh yeah. the video with the triangle.

BTW, if you add &fmt=18 to youtube video urls that already have a high quality option, you get the extra added benefit of STEREO. Try it out.
