The tremolos are provided by the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, whose leader is Daniel Glatzel. They’ve worked a lot with Notwist and have toured with them, playing compositions by Glatzel as well as backing the band. Much stuff up on the youtubes.

So nice when two of my interests intersect (i.e. Nico & the Notwist). Prior to the release of The Devil, You & Me, the Notwist posted a video of the making of "Where in this World" that featured the orchestra at the beginning. Their website is impossible to navigate (though fun if you're not looking for anything specific) and the Google is gave me no love when I tried to find it, but I did find some other Notwist videos that might have interest: 1. I'm a bit puzzled as to how Nik Bärtsch relates to The Notwist, whether you like them or not... but anyway... The latest Notwist album is IMHO actually really weak compared to their previous (from many years earlier), Neon Golden. Here's a video for "One Step Inside", with some nice (non-orchestral) stringy bits.
