writer on the playing of Walt Dickerson:

I think the air hockey metaphor is the key - much &#039;close reading&#039;
music writing ends up too technical, or merely descriptive. The
Dickerson passage simply makes me want to hear the music. I think
that&#039;s the highest praise there is for a piece of music writing.
